Summertime Fling

Let me start off by stating I am no beauty guru~most of the makeup I try or hairstyles I attempt more often than not happen by happy accident. That being said, I wanted to keep things light hearted this week and share with you all some of my favorite "happy accidents" that have become regulars in my life. This spring/summer I'm excited to play with more pops of color which bodes will with the fact that I tend to be quite black and white and neutral with my wardrobe (regardless of season). This is a big step for me. Not only do I infrequently wear much makeup, but *gasp*, color?! I love feeling safe in my basic eyeliner or neutral lips. One of my old fears was that I'd look like a clown with anything otherwise. However, with the warm sun greeting me more on the daily, I'm feeling quite bold and adventurous this season! The Alice Through the Looking Glass eye shadow palette from Urban Decay has a decadent festivity of colors to experiment with which I quite enjoy--my go to colors so far are Paradox and Salazen Grum. Each column of colors is inspired by the main characters from the movie! [Side note: I got to see a pre-screening of the movie before the official premier and it was fantastic. The whole theme of time they wove throughout the film was fantastically written and gave me quite a lot to think about. To cap off the night I got this eyeshadow palette as a gift for attending! Win Win!] Before putting down some color--prime your eyelids! Urban Decay has an incredibly popular eyeshadow primer potion of which I use their "Minor Sin" shade tinted with a champagne sheer glimmer. I used to use a Laura Mercier primer but this little bottle of Urban Decay potion goes a long way and because the Minor Sin gives a sheer tint of color I'll often use it as my all over eye shadow by itself before putting on a little liner for my everyday look! Getting a new lip color was a complete gamble. I was actually thinking about investing in yellow but I couldn't find one at the local Walgreens/CVS so I settled on whatever bright color I could find. Lo and behold...the NYX Liquid Suede in Orange County. The pigment is great, the texture is creamy, and best of all, it doesn't cake up my lips! One of my biggest pet peeves with lipsticks is that the color cracks so quickly and/or makes your lips dry. But to ensure all day moisture on top of that, I add a layer of my absolute favorite find (thanks to my dear friend June) from Glossier :: Coconut Balm Dotcom. The scent is deliciously addicting and a little dab of this also goes a long way. One might find this quite helpful as this balm can be used nearly anywhere. I never thought I'd break away from my beloved Burts Bees chapstick, but alas, the time has come.

Using the Glossier balm on my eyebrows, lips, and with my eyeshadow. Universal skin salve indeed.
I hope these happy accidents accidentally find their way into your makeup bag! Enjoy experimenting with pops of color this season! -sukie<3.
